Vespers & Talk at St John the Baptist Church, North London

On Saturday 24th September 2011, at 5.30 pm, at the Church of St John the Baptist, Wightman Road, N8 0LY, North London, there will be a Great Vespers which will be followed by a talk on “Renewing Conjugal and Family Love and Ties”. The talk will be given by the Very Reverend Andreas Konanos, Archimandrite of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and famous broadcaster of the Piraeus Church’s radio station. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

The historic Church of St. John the Baptist in Wightman Rd London N8 0LY, which serves the spiritual, educational and social needs of the large Greek community in the wider area of North London, is in urgent need of your financial help to be able to continue renewing the leaking roof of the Church.

The rain water ingress from the leaking roof is damaging the beautiful wall paintings and also destroying the general fabric of the church building.

The cost of renewing the roof has been estimated by chartered Architects at £400,000. The government through the National Heritage Fund has offered a grant of about £190,000. This leaves a shortfall of about £210,000. We are writing to appeal to your generosity to help us raise the balance of £210,000.

We would be most grateful if you would, please, kindly contribute to our appeal to help us put a new roof on St. John’s church.

From Monday 4th of October and every Monday at 12:00pm will take place at our Church the Prayer to the Mother of God and then, the Studying of Holy Bible from the Church's Priest in Charge, Archimandrite Seraphim C. Papathanassiou.

The Greek School of our Community, will be open from Saturday 11th of September 2010. Subscriptions will take place at Community's Hall from 9:30am. We wish you a Very Happy New School Year!

On Sunday, 12th September 2010, at the Church of Saint John the Baptist, N. London, His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios will ordain to the Priesthood, Deacon Fr Pavlos Grigoriou.

Due to problems to the roof of the church they are at risk the Paintings of the Holy Church, so it was necessary to completely rebuild the roof, the total project value being of £ 250,000. The Government, through the National Heritage Fund, offered us the sum of £ 160,000. To find the remaining amount we appeal to your love and generosity of your heart, for any financial contribution that could be included in this difficult but essential and necessary work.
